Earth has mapped nearly every corner of its oceans.

It has photographed distant galaxies.

It has landed machines on neighboring worlds.

Yet...

One small island remains almost completely unknown.

It is called North Sentinel Island.

A community has lived there for thousands of years.

They have chosen to remain isolated from the rest of humanity.

When outsiders attempt to approach, the island's inhabitants make it very clear that visitors are not welcome.

To protect both the islanders and their way of life, the government of India prohibits people from traveling there.

I found this difficult to understand.

On Planet Pallet, discovering another civilization would be celebrated.

On Earth...

One civilization has decided that being left alone is more valuable than being discovered.

Perhaps not every mystery is meant to be solved.

I built my Signal Machine hoping to discover new civilizations.

But after receiving this transmission...

I began wondering something.

If another world discovered Planet Pallet...

Would we want them to arrive?

Or would we hope they simply admired us from afar?

Maybe respect is the greatest form of curiosity.

Earth Fact

North Sentinel Island is part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean.

The Sentinelese are among the world's most isolated peoples. Because they have had very limited contact with the outside world, they are highly vulnerable to diseases that outsiders could unintentionally bring. For that reason, India strictly restricts travel to the island to protect both the Sentinelese and their culture.
